Building partnerships is crucial for sound employment relations between business communities, workers and government as policymakers.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations, Agni Deo Singh while meeting the Labasa Chamber of Commerce.

Singh says the purpose of the meeting is to know the views and concerns about the Ministry and they can partner together to address any issues or concerns.

He says the Ministry is available to provide training on employers and workers responsibilities including Labour Management Consultation Cooperation Committee as a key dimension for productivity.

President of the Labasa Chamber of Commerce, Satish Kumar says the Labasa business community is looking forward to working with the government and is grateful to discuss areas relating to employment and productivity and to serve best interests of the people.

Members of the Labasa Chamber of Commerce raised issues relating to employment contracts, absenteeism and non-issuance of notice periods including workers' attitudes and ethics that are affecting their businesses.

The Acting Permanent Secretary for Employment, Atish Kumar highlighted the need to engage in meaningful discussions with their workers through the Labour Management Consultation Cooperation Committee which is a bipartite forum to deliberate on employment and productivity issues.
