The 2025–2026 National Budget Consultations officially began this week with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad addressing key private sector stakeholders and umbrella bodies, reaffirming the Coalition Government’s commitment to transparency, dialogue, and inclusive economic growth.

While speaking at the consultation, Professor Prasad thanked attendees for their ongoing support and emphasised the importance of open discussions in shaping Fiji’s financial future.

He says these consultations are at the heart of participatory governance, highlighting the value of aligning national priorities with the experiences of businesses and communities.

Professor Prasad shared insights into global and local economic trends, including the impact of rising trade tensions and Fiji’s strong domestic recovery led by tourism, remittances, and investment growth.

He also outlined the government’s fiscal strategy focused on debt reduction and smarter spending.

Stakeholders from the private sector, commerce groups, and industry associations were invited to offer feedback and contribute ideas as part of the national dialogue.

The public consultation will start tonight, with the first session at Rishikul School Hall from 6pm to 8pm.

Tomorrow, the consultation will be held at the SAFE Lecture Theatre, USP Laucala Campus from 6pm to 8pm.
