After a spirited comeback to close the gap to just one point in their semi final against the Blues, Brumbies coach Dan McKellar has strongly implied that he believes a penalty should have been given in the frantic final moments as the Blues tried to wind down the clock.

Blues lock Luke Romano was tackled and isolated with the Brumbies competing ferociously for the ball at the breakdown.

While speaking to media after the match, coach McKellar says it’s clear in the review that Brumbies player Luke Reimer appeared to be well and truly on the ball first directly in front of the posts. but ref Ben O’Keeffe let play go on.

The Brumbies coach says its hard at Eden Park when an Australian team hasn’t won there forever and the day they need a bit of luck didn’t go their way.

O’Keeffe’s call was labelled as ‘gutless’ by fans from both sides as even Kiwi’s agreed it was a clear holding on penalty to the Brumbies.

One fan described it as a ‘stone cold penalty’ while another said it was ‘atrocious’ that the call was not given.

The Blues eventually beat the Brumbies 20-19 to book their Super Rugby Pacific finals spot where they will face the Crusaders at 7.05pm this Saturday.
