Billy ‘The Kid’ Odhiambo looks forward to his first-ever tournament in Fiji

Kenyan Rugby 7s star Billy Odhiambo is looking forward to participating in his first ever McDonald’s Fiji’s Coral Coast 7s when he teams up with the McDonald’s Ambassador All Stars 7s team for the tournament.

This will be Odhiambo’s first ever trip to Fiji as well and play on the Fijian soil.

Odhiambo says he felt a huge honour and privilege when his former Kenyan 7s teammate and star Collins Injera selected him to represent Injera at the tournament playing for the Ambassador All Stars 7s side.

He says he is expecting to mix it up with great players from all over the world at the tournament and learn as much as he can from former New Zealand 7s head coach Sir Gordon Tietjens.

Nicknamed Billy ‘The Kid’ by the World Rugby 7s commentators, the 30-year-old has made over 100 appearances for the Kenyan 7s side in the World 7s Series and also represented Kenya in the 2016 Rio Olympics and 2020 Tokyo Olympics 7s tournaments.

After announcing his retirement last year on his 30th birthday, Odhiambo will be looking to lace up his boots one last time and play against some of the top local and international 7s teams at the Coral Coast 7s.

Odhiambo will be teaming up with players like former Fiji 7s star Semi Kunatani and former South Africa 7s forward Kyle Brown in the McDonald’s Ambassador All Stars 7s side.

There will be 16 teams in the Men’s Division that will be vying for the top prize money of $20,000.

The 2024 McDonald’s Fiji’s Coral Coast 7s tournament will be held from next Thursday to Saturday at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
