Baulevu Nav Durga Temple priest Vineshwar Sharma says a number of people in the area are disappointed with police service delivery especially by the Baulevu Police Post and claims a number of cases involving crop thefts and damaging property are pending for over a year now.

Sharma says root crop thefts take place during the season when the demand is high.

He says overnight 10 to 15 bags of root crops can be stolen.

This matter was raised when the Acting Prime Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum visited the area after the temple break-in and burning of the holy book, Ramayan.

He says there are occasions when there is no response from police regarding their complaints.

While reacting to the complaints, Sayed-Khaiyum says community intelligence gathering is also needed to assist the Police and they will look into the issue and assessments will be made on a Police vehicle for the area.

Sayed-Khaiyum says they also continue to have reforms, and people have been removed from the force as they were not appointed on merit by some previous Commissioners.

We have sent questions to Police.
