Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has opened the new Korovuli Bridge in Vanua Levu to bolster the economy, improve access to education and boost healthcare delivery in the North.

The new Korovuli Bridge is built to globally recognised climate resilient standards and now connects the entire Northern Division, including the three Provinces of Bua, Cakaudrove and Macuata; while also being strong enough to support the weight of heavy trucks.

Speaking during the commissioning, Bainimarama says the new bridge is part of a strategic network of roads, bridges, jetties, airport services, electricity, water, sanitation and health infrastructure that his Government has prioritised for investment.

He adds Fiji’s national infrastructure network is more robust, resilient, and reliable than ever before because they know that strong economies and strong recoveries are built on a strong infrastructure.

The Prime Minister says this $5.3 million bridge is a testimony to that commitment.

He says to fulfil its commitment to connecting rural communities to its economic centres and key public services, the Fiji Roads Authority will undertake a capital works programme valued at $2.5 billion over the next five years.

Bainimarama says his Government has been steadily working to connect these communities over the last several years, but, if past governments had supplied the same vision and showed the same initiative, all those communities could have been connected to the nation much, much sooner.

The Prime Minister says they are righting that historic injustice with every resilient road they pave, the jetty they construct, and the bridges that they build.

The villagers were also presented with a Walesi decoder and TV set for their hall.

Meanwhile, Bainimarama also visited the Damodar City Labasa complex today.

Dubbed as one of the major developments for Labasa Town, the Project's Manager for Development and Leasing, Cornelia Smith says phase one construction is completed and would open to the public in December.

Smith adds that phase one and two includes 81 store spaces, a cinema, and a parking lot that consists of 176 parking spaces, among other facilities.
