A 38-year-old man who is a facing a count of attempted rape and 2 counts of rape has been granted bail by High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar.

The accused is alleged to have raped his 14-year-old stepdaughter between the 1st to the 30th of November, 2018 in Nasinu.

He is also alleged to have attempted to rape his stepdaughter between the 1st and the 30th of April, 2018 at the same place.

Justice Goundar granted bail to the accused after the prosecution told the court that they are not objecting to bail as the complainant had relocated and was residing with her biological father after the incident.

Justice Goundar has ordered the accused's sureties to sign a bail bond of $1000 each.

The accused was also ordered to reside with his surety at a fixed residential address and not to change it without the leave of the court.

The 38-year-old man was also ordered to surrender his passport within 72 hours and if he did not have one, he was ordered not to obtain any passport or travel documents.

He has also been ordered to report to the Valelevu Police Station every Saturday between 6am to 6pm.

Justice Goundar has warned the accused to remain on good behaviour and attend all his court hearings.

The matter will be called for a pre-trial conference on the 4th of September.
