Rural communities across Fiji will get access to financial literacy programs as BSP Bank Fiji, the Ministry of Finance together and Post Fiji have signed a Banking Services Agreement.

While signing the agreement, Relieving BSP Country Head Rajeshwar Singh says since 2013, their focus has always been on bringing financial inclusion to undeserved rural communities, where geographical barriers often limit access to the tools needed for economic participation. He says this agreement reflects their continued pledge to improve financial access for Fijians in rural and remote areas as they believe that financial inclusion is not a privilege but a right, and we are dedicated to ensuring that every Fijian can participate in the nation’s economy, whether through savings, loans, or day-to-day transactions.

Singh adds the BSP’s Micro Finance team, is getting ready to visit 11 sites in Ba district and the target is to engage with over 700 registered farmers.

Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Finance, Shiri Goundar says BSP has been at the forefront of some of the other social objectives like supporting government with the payment of social welfare payments to those that are poor, vulnerable, disabled or elderly.

Goundar says the Ministry is thrilled to sign agreement with BSP as they have been very active in supporting MSME development with the financing support that's provided to small, medium enterprises.
