Australian citizen, Jenny Huong has pleaded guilty and has been sentenced to 6 months imprisonment and suspended for 2 years after being charged with giving false information to a public servant after appearing at the Sigatoka Magistrate Court later this week.

Police say on the 30th of January, the 42-year-old gave false information to Police Constable Musharraf Ali of Sigatoka Police Station that she was robbed by an unknown person in Sigatoka Town.

She told Police that the unknown person stole her black bag containing a phone, sunglasses and wallet containing $180.00.

After viewing the CCTV Footage of Sigatoka Town, police saw the accused getting out of a vehicle without any black handbag.

Upon further investigation, it was clear that she wasn't robbed of anything and was later arrested and interviewed under caution where she admitted that she did not have her black handbag with her and neither was she robbed.

Police say while they try their best to protect tourists and visitors, they are equally responsible for their safety and that of others.
