Around 4,000 people living in Momi, Nawai, Korokula, Uciwai and other nearby areas can expect access to stable water supply following the transfer of the Momi Water Infrastructure from FNPF to the Water Authority of Fiji.

WAF has paid around $2 million for the transaction.

Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says around $18.25 million is required to extend the water supply to other nearby areas such as Nalovo, Nabila, Momi Village, Nawai Secondary School, Bavu and Nalovo Secondary School.

Sayed-Khaiyum says they intend to make immediate allocation to provide services in some of the key areas, and over a period of time spend an additional $18.25 million to connect other areas.

WAF CEO Amit Channan says they will have to put additional pipe networks in some of the areas and they will be able to provide services to everyone within the next 2 to 3 years.

Channan says the project not only allows the significant economic development but is also delivering on the social space.

He says they are looking forward to extending water supply to some of these areas.
