Around 40 youths including boys and girls were engaged in a brawl at the Suva Bus Stand at around 10 o'clock last night leaving innocent people boarding or waiting for their bus to run or move out of the way for their safety.

Eyewitnesses say before the fight happened, there was a lot of swearing and people chased each other around the bus terminal and even harassed innocent passengers.

They say there were three groups involved in the fight and they did not listen to the police officer who was the first at the scene.

Eyewitnesses say they could clearly tell that some of the people involved in the brawl were teenagers.

An eyewitness who has asked not to be named out of concern for his safety says the people involved in the fight ran and boarded some of the buses when more police officers arrived.

He says these youths who were not wearing any masks also started shaking the bus.

The eyewitness says they are innocent people boarding the bus after a hard day of work and were genuinely concerned for their safety.

The eyewitness says the fight started at around 10.10pm and ended at around 10.30pm when more police officers intervened.

Fijivillage has asked Police if there were any arrests made.

Police have told us there was no official report of the incident at the Totogo Police Station or Market Community Post.

They say the video of the incident shows youths and teenagers running around the Suva Bus Stand at night when their officers were not around.

Acting Chief Operations Officer, ACP Sakeo Ganivatu says everything was back to normal when their officers came minutes later to ensure that everyone returned home before the curfew.

He says they will continue to be present around Suva City especially at the bus stand area at night for the safety of everyone.

ACP Ganivatu is calling on parents to know where their children are and ensure that they are safe at home at night.

He says it is unfortunate that many young people will always try to take advantage of any situation once they notice that law enforcement officers are not around.
