Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto.

Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto has revealed that his contract as the Army Commander comes to an end in March 2021.

Commander Naupoto highlighted this while commissioning the first ever Republic of Fiji Military Force Navy Band today at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Nabua. Naupoto who was emotional during the launch says he never thought he would see the day that there would be a Navy Band and that his term was also coming to an end.

He adds the logic behind forming the RFMF Navy Band is because the RFMF band is perhaps the busiest unit in the RFMF as they perform two roles which is their regimental roles and their big demand role as members of the band.

Naupoto says another reason why the band was formed is because the Navy as a unit has colors given by the President, and this will ensure that they have a band when they parade their colors.

He says this also provided an opportunity to employ some of the students of the National Youth Band School.

The Army Commander also shared a background story of some of the members of the National Youth Band who are now part of the RFMF Navy band.

He says from what he knows, the National Youth Band School provides a second chance for people who were not able to go up to tertiary school but he saw determination in these students.
