Permanent Secretary for Education Dr Anjeela Jokhan

Permanent Secretary for Education, Anjeela Jokhan says parents and guardians can now register and apply for their Children's Transport assistance by using a new online Parent/Guardian portal.

Jokhan says the Ministry of Education is inviting all students in Years 1-13 whose parents and guardians combined household income is $16,000 to apply for transport assistance.

$33m has been allocated by the Government for the 2023 transport assistance.

She says an optional online transport assistance application process will be piloted for students in Years 10-13.

Jokhan says the online portal will offer a more streamlined application process for families and schools and provide improved communication to parents and guardians on the status of their children's transport applications.

The Permanent Secretary for Education advises families with students in Years 10-13 who do not have internet access or email addresses to ensure their applications are submitted to their child’s school.

Jokhan says the free transport initiative is an attempt by the Fijian Government to reduce the financial burden on parents who are unable to afford the transportation costs involved in sending their children to school.

She says this will ensure equal access to quality education for all Fijian students from Primary, Secondary and Vocational Schools.
