All Suva schools that are experiencing water supply disruptions caused by heavy rain and damaged pipes, will remain closed tomorrow.

This includes schools in the Suva City Area (Toorak, Samabula, and Flagstaff), Lami, Delainavesi, Nasese, Nabua and Upper Princes Road.

Permanent Secretary for Education, Selina Kuruleca says the decision to extend the closure tomorrow is due to the ongoing challenges in water supply.

She says these challenges affect the operational capacity of schools and pose risks to the health and safety of students.

Kuruleca says this unexpected and unfortunate circumstance has not only disrupted school activities but also their ability to maintain basic hygiene and sustenance for our children.

She adds in times like these, we are called upon to demonstrate resilience and adaptability and our response to these challenges will define our ability to overcome adversity and emerge stronger as a community.

She is urging parents and children to remain patient and cooperative as WAF works towards resolving this issue.

The Permanent Secretary says efforts are underway to address the water shortage, with water trucks refilling school tanks, however, given the current situation and the priority of ensuring the well-being of students, it is essential for them to remain at home.

She says a lot of disruptions have taken place in the schools recently and she affirms that all Heads of School and teacher adhere to Circular 43/2024 to cover up for the lost teaching and learning time.

Kuruleca says all Heads of Schools and teachers in these affected areas are to report to their respective schools tomorrow to meet with the MOE DRR Team who will be visiting to carry out survey on water storage facilities.

Staff are advised to bring their own drinking water.

The Permanent Secretary says the Circular 50/2024 outlines educational activities to be shared via your school media channels.

She further says if any staff member has challenges, please communicate with their respective Head of School and Divisional Officer.

She adds further updates will be provided as the situation evolves.
