People who are working during the Easter public holidays should be compensated for their performance.

Minister for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations, Agni Deo Singh, is calling on all employers to ensure workers are paid for work performed during the Easter public holidays, in accordance with the Employment Relations Act 2007.

He says if a someone works this Good Friday, Easter Saturday, or Easter Monday, they are entitled to double pay.

Singh says if a worker does not work on the public holiday but has worked the regular working day before and after it, they are entitled to a single public holiday pay.

He says any worker who is unable to work on the normal working day before or after the public holiday must provide a valid reason or a medical certificate to qualify for public holiday pay.

Singh has also stressed that both workers and employers need to fully understand the reasons behind public holiday pay entitlements.

He says the Ministry’s Compliance Team will conduct on-the-spot checks at workplaces to ensure they adhere to the law and guarantee that workers receive their rightful benefits.

Singh says people should contact the nearest Ministry of Employment Office for clarification or refer to the relevant amended Wages Regulations and the Employment Relations (National Minimum Wage) (Amendment) Regulations 2024, which came into effect on 1 April 2025.
