Founder of The Bure Production, Adi Tulia Nacola, celebrated a major milestone with the launch of her first 25-minute short film, Bubu Belo, at the Film Fiji office in Suva.

Performed in the iTaukei language, the film follows Bubu and her grandson Tamana, who live in a seaside cottage in Verevere Village, Ra.

Played by Lusiana Vakabauta and Michael Tabualovoni, the characters explore themes of survival, traditional knowledge and the bond between generations, with Bubu teaching Tamana fishing, farming, independence and respect for the land.

The film highlights the importance of storytelling as a way to preserve cultural traditions and build connections between elders and children.

Vakabauta described feeling emotional watching the premiere, saying it reflected the role elders play in passing down values and life skills.

72 year old Vakabauta hopes the film will remind parents of the importance of nurturing children with love and knowledge.

Bubu Belo is a heartfelt celebration of culture, tradition, and the enduring bond between generations.

Meanwhile, Adi Tulia Nacola has also signed an agreement with a film organisation where she will record her second film.

Nacola further says the film will travel to the province of Ra for screening in multiple villages and communities and is the first step to sharing the story and showing the communities the importance of knowing where one comes from so that they can move forward into the future with a sense of identity and belonging.
