Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew says they have nothing to hide after five police officers were charged with various offences last month.

Chew has reassured and reaffirmed the commitment of the organisation of gaining back the confidence of the public by enhancing transparency and accountability after the June crime statistics were revealed, where five police officers were charged with various offences such as money laundering, breach of a domestic violence restraining order, abuse of office and unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

The Acting Commissioner says in accordance with the Fiji Police Force’s commitment of ensuring transparency and accountability, when a formal complaint is lodged, due processes will be followed with the conduct of an investigation when it involves one of their officers.

He has also acknowledged the overwhelming support shown recently towards curbing the illicit drug trade as well as other serious crimes.

Chew says the pledges and commitments made at the Provincial council levels, religious organisations, private and public sector to support efforts of crime prevention and in particular the illicit drug trade is commended and welcomed.

He says the solutions to many of the crimes are not with Police, and they rely on the support of all sectors of the community to get to the root causes of crime.

The Acting Commissioner says the fact that the issues are being talked about and solutions identified is reassuring.

He says we must continue the momentum and cannot afford to look back, because there is strength in numbers and together, we can curb crimes within our communities.
