ARUKA Fiji calls for collective responsibility in supporting street dwellers

The ARUKA Fiji held a barefoot walk campaign today to commemorate World International Day for Street Children at the Albert Park in Suva and to experience some of the things that those less fortunate members go through on the streets.

While speaking during the barefoot walk, the Founder and Director of ARUKA Fiji, Ratu Inoke Drauna says people in the communities are coming out and offering coaching and mentors to street dwellers and to also understand what those children have gone through while on the streets.

He says they have also provided online forms for those mentors who are interested in helping.

Ratu Inoke says as we commemorate World International Day for street children, it is a good time for them to assist and coach street dwellers on moral principles and make them care about what they are doing.

Prominent singer, Aggie Vakaloloma says the need to look out for street dwellers is the responsibility of every individual, stakeholder and government - to decrease and eliminate differences among unfortunate citizens.

Vakaloloma also highlighted the importance of parents in playing their role of looking after their children's well-being instead of allowing them to live on the street.

Meanwhile, ARUKA Fiji is pleading with other organisations and the government to reach out to these children and help them to be a better person in life.

More than 30 people were part of the march from the Government Building to Albert Park today.
