Scamming has become a universal problem and needs a proactive rather than reactive approach and robust legislation is needed to effectively combat and reduce scams in the country.

While speaking at the National Scams Awareness Week, Save the Children Fiji CEO Shairana Ali says robust legislation is considered an effective way to reduce scams in Fiji and parents and guardians at home should talk to their children to create a safe space from being victims of scams and other illegal activities.

Ali says children continue to face adversities in the digital space.

She says parents should talk to their children at home daily because it is their right to be safe, and everyone has an obligation to see that those rights are protected.

Ali says putting children at the centre of this initiative of scam awareness is paramount, and stakeholders and the government should set up a clear and powerful framework to protect this space for children.

She adds the various discussions held today will resonate key points to various stakeholders on the welfare of children and their safety.
