Leader of Government in Parliament Inia Seruiratu

Leader of Government in Parliament, Inia Seruiratu says the parliamentary business committee has agreed for the possibility of having a session next year dedicated to discuss around 73 outstanding reports.

He told parliament that NFP parliamentarian, Pio Tikoduadua had raised the issue in relation to these outstanding reports that are with parliament.

Parliament has unanimously agreed that there will be seven sittings next year.

The sitting calendar for next year:

February 8th to 12th

March 22nd to 26th

April 26th to 30th

August 16th to 20th

September 20th to 24th

October 25th – Prorogation, the term for the formal end of the parliamentary session

November 22nd - Opening of the new session of parliament

November 29th to 3rd December

Seruiratu says the National Budget debate week will be decided later but will be either in June or July next year.

Seruiratu adds if there is a dire need to re-adjust the sitting dates, this would be subsequently tabled in parliament to allow for some flexibility because of the COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions may also change in the future.
