President of Master Builders Association, Vijay Raghwan says there are a number of what can be called cowboy contractors that are giving the construction industry a bad name.

Raghwan says contracts have been broken, builders have not finished the work, there are a number of complaints, and at the end of the day it is the consumer who suffers.

While speaking on their membership drive, Raghwan says they have 38 members, all solid in the industry.

He says belonging to Master Builders is an assurance to the industry that every member is committed to maintaining the highest standards through quality and fair workplace practices.

Raghwan says they will not tolerate questionable activities in the Association.

Much of Fiji’s infrastructure has been constructed over the years, by members of the Master Builders Association, active in the country since l961.

The membership drive is a Construction Industry Council and Master Builders Association joint initiative to bring more of the contractors and suppliers under the MBA umbrella.

President of the Construction Industry Council, Gordon Jenkins says the importance of a strong Master Builders Association is invaluable to the construction industry.

Jenkins says certainly the strength is in its numbers. He says the more builders and suppliers as members in the MBA, within its highly ethical framework, the more consumers will turn to the Association to employ its members.

The Council President says it is an important step towards cleaning up the industry.

At the meeting, several key construction companies committed to join the Association.
