The Leader of the National Federation Party Professor Biman Prasad says a lockdown is inevitable as the longer we wait and numbers rise, the longer and more painful the lockdown will be.

Professor Prasad says the longer this crisis goes on, the longer our borders cannot open and tourists cannot return.

He has recommended that a working group be formed which should be led and directed by the Ministry of Health.

The NFP Leader says the Economy Ministry, all political leaders, community leaders, the business community and the disciplined forces must also be represented.

Professor Prasad says the Health Ministry will tell us what to do and it is up to the rest of us to follow.

He says if the Ministry of Health wants a lockdown, the rest of us must enable it and communicate to everyone.

Professor Prasad says the Economy Ministry and the community leaders must work together to create a plan to support the most vulnerable people.

He says the networks in government and the community to support the vulnerable must be used.

Professor Prasad says we need to seek further help from Australia and New Zealand as they have resources and skills we do not have.

The NFP Leader says they can help us to control the virus, help our poorest people and step up vaccinations.

He says this is not a time for nationalistic pride as lives, health and incomes are at stake.

Professor Prasad says this is a time to accept that we are not coping with the problem and to request help to bring the crisis under control.
