4,000 kilograms of marijuana has been seized and uprooted in Kadavu since June last year.

There have been 40 arrests made during the same period.

While speaking at the Kadavu Provincial Council meeting in Tavuki Village, Kadavu, Acting Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu says twelve teams have been deployed to Kadavu since June last year and they will continue to be mobilized to curb the illegal trade.

Tudravu says 82,700 marijuana plants have been uprooted by Police since January last year.

He said it was concerning that people were even cultivating marijuana near the village boundaries in some cases.

Tudravu has also reassured the people of Kadavu that if any officer abused their authority, the matter would be dealt with according to the law.

He says Police do not want to dwell too much on what has transpired in the past as they are more focused on helping the people of Kadavu come to a workable solution on the way forward.
