Minister for Education Rosy Akbar says since the launch of the consultation process on the Fiji National Action Plan to prevent violence against women and girls, 804 participants have been part of the in person consultation before it was brought to a halt due to the outbreak of the second wave of COVID-19 in Fiji.

Akbar says in adapting to the new normal, the National Plan team has successfully facilitated three virtual consultations in the faith, education and informal sector which engaged 111 participants.

She says the online survey is still available for people who are interested in sharing their views on preventing violence against women and girls in Fiji.

Akbar says around 90 faith leaders, teachers and education professions from across the country came together virtually to contribute to this plan this month.

The Minister adds the National Action Plan will set out short, medium and long term strategies to reduce levels of violence against women and girls by challenging its underlying root causes.

She adds the objective of the consultations is to generate high-level findings which will help with the development of the Action Plan.
