About eight proposed political parties have shown interest in the 2026 General Elections.

Supervisor of Elections, Ana Mataiciwa confirmed this and states that they will be able to share more details once they move forward with the registration process and ensure the proposed parties meet the necessary requirements.

Mataiciwa clarified that no proposed political parties have been officially registered yet.

She says they have begun their training in preparation for the upcoming elections while the electoral reform will be spearheaded by the Electoral Commission in preparation for next year’s election.

The Supervisor of Elections says that the earliest possible Writ date for the next election is legally set for the 24th of June, 2026 and if the it is issued on this date, the first election day would be the 7th of August, 2026.

She further says that the latest possible date the Writ could be issued is the 24th of December, 2026 - meaning the last possible election day would be the 6th of February, 2027.

Mataiciwa adds that they must be election-ready by May 2026 and they have ample time to adapt to any amendments that may be introduced or passed in Parliament and to raise awareness among Fijians about any new electoral processes.
