The Fiji Roads Authority will need to spend about $75-$100 million to bring road conditions back to the previous level of service but they are able to get the roads opened at a much less cost.

While speaking to fijivillage News, FRA CEO Kamal Prasad says they will be spending about $15 to $20 million to bring back roads to enable access as there is a lot of drainage work that needs to be done.

Prasad says unsealed roads sustained most of the damage.

He says about 20 percent of the rehabilitation work has been done and they will only be able to get proper rehabilitation work done after April when the rainy weather has passed.

The CEO says they are spending between $600,000 to $1.8 million on immediate response per month.

He says these numbers are going to get higher as they continue their immediate response and is expected to reach $5-$8 million.

The CEO adds they had sent a request to the Ministry of Finance for more money to be made available and some money has come through as they are now ensuring there is no overspending.
