A 70% pass rate for the Year 13 exam has been recorded by the Education Ministry with a Nadi Sangam College student scoring the highest mark of 395 out of 400.

This is a slight decrease compared to the 79% pass rate in 2020.

8,123 students sat for the exam while 11% of the students did not turn up.

Minister for Education Premila Kumar says the provisional results will allow for a 30 day window where students can ask for either a recount or a remark if they are unsatisfied with their result.

She says around 65 students had applied for compassionate assessments as they were unwell during the exams and a team is looking into it.

Kumar says students missed a huge amount of classroom learning but they continued their home studies with the help of parents and teachers.

She also says that 4 out of the 5 students with the highest marks are girls.

Kumar says Duavata Secondary School in Macuata and Yat Sen Secondary School have recorded a 100% pass rate while Central College in Lautoka recorded a 99% pass rate.

She says it is impressive that some schools in the rural areas have outperformed some of the urban schools who are better resourced.

The Minister adds students who have not passed the exam should not be disheartened as it was a tough year.

She says TVET is a viable option for a career and government has allocated 5,000 awards for TVET studies at the Fiji National University.

The Year 12 results will be released on April 6th 2022.
