7 records broken after day 1 of the 2023 Coca-Cola Games

Seven records have been broken on the first day of the 2023 Coca-Cola Games.

4 athletes from the Sub-Junior Girls 1500m event broke the event record that was set by Laisiana Kororua last year with a time of 5 minutes 35.30 seconds.

Milika Lewairavu of Naitasiri Secondary School won gold with a time of 5 minutes 15.97 seconds, Kalisi Dama of Seaqaqa Central College won silver with a time of 5 minutes 27.38 seconds, Ester Nasici from Cuvu College with bronze with 5 minutes 27.84 seconds while Luisa Muriduadua of St Vincent's College in fourth position clocked 5 minutes 27.84 seconds.

A new record has also been set by Jale Raikatalau of Ratu Kadavulevu in the Sub-Junior 1500m event clocking 4 minutes 43.11 seconds while the previous record was set by Isireli Lagivala in 2017 with a time of 4 minutes 43.42 seconds.

Lilieta Buna of Thomas Baker and Gladness Simpson of Ratu Luke Secondary both broke the Intermediate Girls 1500m record set by Alefina Volavola last year with a time of 5 minutes 16.30 seconds.

Buna won gold with a time of 5 minutes 12.40 seconds while Simpson sets her record time of 5 minutes 14.45 seconds.
