7 in 10 Fijians aged 15 to 74 years of the 1,678 people surveyed use a smartphone daily.

This is according to a Digital and Financial Literacy Baseline Survey conducted by the United Nations Capital Development Fund in 2022.

The survey looks to fill the existing gap on digital and financial literacy in the country.

The UN Capital Development Fund says 81 percent of Fijians surveyed have access to smartphones, 39 percent have access to a tablet, laptop or desktop computer, 39 percent to a smart TV while 31 percent have smartwatches.

They further say two-thirds of Fijians surveyed agree digital financial services like mobile payments, online banking, and digital wallets will soon replace cash.

The UNCDF say three-quarters of the people surveyed acknowledged that digital financial services make it easier to receive payments.

They further say 3 in 5 Fijians believe digital financial services are risky for ordinary people.

The UNCDF adds 47 percent of Fijians surveyed worry technology is leaving them behind.

The UN Capital Development Fund says they will engage government agencies with the results of the survey to enable informed policy actions and interventions with the goal to strengthen financial and digital literacy.
