Seven Police officers including their immediate supervisor have been sent on leave pending an internal investigation in relation to the impersonation case at the Raiwaqa Police Station.

This follows an incident where a man pretended to be a stranded Police Officer from the Sigatoka Police Station and worked at the Raiwaqa Police Station for three weeks. He had walked into the police station in uniform, saying he was stuck in Suva.

Acting Police Commissioner, Ruisate Tudravu says the incident has brought the laxity of a few middle managers to the forefront and they are working on further strengthening their internal processes and procedures to avoid a repeat of what transpired.

Tudravu says he knows this incident has put a dent on public confidence and people's trust in their ability to effectively carry out their duties.

He says he would like to assure all Fijians that disciplinary measures will be taken against those who failed to conduct their duties and allowed the unfortunate incident to happen under their watch.

The Acting Commissioner says he takes responsibility for the incident and gives his assurance that the matter will be dealt with through their internal disciplinary measures.
