67 people charged for serious crimes last month

67 people were charged with 176 counts of separate incidents of serious crimes last month.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, of the 67 accused persons, six were juveniles and two were police officers.

There were eight incidents where the accused and the victims were related to one another.

A 15-year-old boy, two 17-year-old boys alongside a 19-year-old man were charged with the unlawful wounding of a 29-year-old man. The accused persons allegedly wounded the victim with stones and tree branches.

The other three juveniles were charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, attempted aggravated burglary and theft.

A 51-year-old police officer was charged with one count of careless driving while a 43-year-old police officer was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm to his 7-year-old daughter by the use of a wooden spoon.

A 23-year-old man was charged with two counts of murder and one count of aggravated robbery.

The accused allegedly caused the death of a 69-year-old man and a 67-year-old woman and stole their mobile phone.

A 29-year-old man was charged with the manslaughter of a 16-year-old boy. The accused allegedly tackled the boy during a fight which resulted in the boy’s death. There was one incident where a 22-year-old woman was charged with manslaughter arising from breach of duty after she neglected to supervise her 2 year 8 month old son which resulted in the child drowning.

A 27-year-old man was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm to his 27-year-old wife and in another incident a 30-year-old man was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm to his 29-year-old wife.
