The $66 million Queen Elizabeth Drive Upgrade Project in Suva is expected to now be completed by this September.

65 percent of the work has been completed.

Fiji Roads Authority CEO, Kamal Prasad had earlier said the work was expected to be completed by December last year however the planned completion date is now September, depending on the weather but they are getting a good weather spell at the moment.

He says most of the work at the Ratu Sukuna Road end is done while street lights need to be installed and footpaths need to be rehabilitated.

The CEO says extensive work is also underway from the Fiji Maritime Academy end of the road.

He says the big mountain of earth near the Nasese Bridge is being cleared slowly and once the pre-loading exercise is completed they will connect the road to the bridge in the next few months.

Prasad says works are progressing as they have expected and there have been some issues regarding material but that is being dealt with by the contractor.

When questioned if the contractors are on budget, the CEO confirms it is within their budget.

The project includes developing 4.5 kilometres of road with a new Nasese bridge, new traffic layout and roundabouts.

All underground utility services have also been upgraded under this project together with the construction of footpaths on both sides of the road for pedestrians, cycling lanes with upgraded streetlights and parking spaces.

China Railway 5 Group has been contracted for the project.
