The 66-member Tavuki Crime Prevention Committee has been launched in Kadavu to prevent crime and to ensure youths are not engaging in criminal activities.

This was highlighted by Fiji Police Force saying that after the launching, two days workshop was conducted by the Southern Division Community Policing Team which focused on the Crime Prevention Committee's roles and responsibilities as newly appointed members of the Tavuki CPC.

Police say the tikina of Tavuki is the last of the 9 districts to launch its Crime Prevention Committee under Operation Vueti Sauca.

Police say the 9 tikina chiefs expressed their support in the launching of Crime Prevention Committees on the island.

Turaga na Tui Tavuki Ratu Penioni Nacagilevu acknowledged the efforts by the police in educating all the tikina in Kadavu.

Ratu Penioni also thanked the government and the Acting Commissioner of Police for this initiative in empowering the various communities in Kadavu.

He says people need to understand that police are not our enemies but are obligated to conduct their duties for the betterment of the country.

He adds this workshop has changed perception in the way they viewed police, and they are ready to take ownership in doing their part in keeping the communities safe.

He has called on youths to be patient in earning a decent living and move to traditional farming to support their families.

In his final message, he requested the Tavuki Crime Prevention Committee members to work with the other 8 district Committees for the betterment of Kadavu and its future generations.
