An exciting rugby weekend awaits us as top 7s teams vie for the $6,000 prizemoney in the Fiji Bitter Mataso 7s, set to take place this Friday and Saturday at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

32 teams have confirmed their participation, with 16 competing in the Elite pool and another 16 in the Grassroot pool.

The tournament will feature a new format, allowing the top 4 teams from each pool to advance to the knockout stages, offering grassroots teams a shot at reaching the final.

Tournament director James Vunituraga announced the new format during the event’s launch, emphasising the opportunity it creates for grassroots teams to compete for the title.

A Fijian Drua team and two national 7s teams made up of Fiji Blue and Fiji White have also confirmed their participation this week.

Teams confirmed in the Elite pool include the Fijian Drua 7s, TEMC Warriors, Fiji Blue, Western Wardens, Police Blue, M.Recht Devo Babas, Pegasus Lavidi 2, Postshop Tabadamu, Fiji White, Mataravua, Army FTG, Spearhead Yalovata, BLK Lavidi Brothers, Supercool Vatukoro, Echo Army Lautoka, and Marist Rugby.

In the Grassroot pool, teams such as Viwa Rugby, JSF Solevu Kings, Sydney Tilivabukuya, Teri Brothers, Bularoos Rugby, Vuda Green, Westcoast Drifters, Namacuku Brothers, Yaro Chiefs, Senibiau Blues, Nalolo Warriors, Taikita Brothers, Namara Brothers, Namosi Highlanders, Vuna Brothers, and Vacalea Young Boys will compete.
