After facing several challenges that included COVID-19, the Managing Partner of the law firm, Lateef and Lateef hopes to rise like a phoenix and regain their foothold in the legal industry again.

Zarin Lateef says the last few years have been very hard for the law firm celebrating its 50th anniversary, as they were already suffering from reputational damage prior to COVID and various staff contracting the virus so they had to completely close for a few months.

He says thanks to the hard work of their staff and the loyalty of their clients, they managed to survive the last couple of years.

Lateef further says the challenge he faces is living up to the legacy of his grandfather, the late Abdul Lateef, and the founder of the firm, his father, Haroon Lateef, who passed away in January 2009.

He says he has very big shoes to fill which is daunting.

The lawyer says another challenge he faces is that he is alone as the only member of the family in the firm; unlike his uncles and father who had each other to rely on and support each other.

However, he says he is fortunate to have loyal staff who are determined to help him rebuild the firm and adds he also has various senior lawyers as mentors. Lateef further says they have a very strong foundation with a loyal client base and believes they are on the right track to take the firm back to where it was or to even surpass that.

He says it is a huge honour for him to continue his family’s legacy and he prays the family firm continues to prosper for another 50 years.

The firm currently has 4 lawyers and 9 support staff.

Zarin Lateef and Setavana Saumatua are the current partners and owners of the firm while Shazran Caesar Lateef retired from the firm in April 2019.
