50 women graduate from the Makoi Vocational Training Centre

50 women graduated with their certificates in aged care, community care, culinary and pastry at the Makoi Vocational Training Centre today. 19 women graduated with a level 3 National Certificate in Aged Care and Community Care while 16 women graduated in the 8 weeks Tailoring Course.

15 women graduated in Culinary and Pastry.

While officiating at the graduation ceremony, Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar says the training will bring a form of financial independence to all those that have graduated today. Akbar says it's very important that women entrepreneurs get their support from their family and loved ones. Fiji Muslim League President Hafizud Dean Khan says there was a large percentage of people who were recorded last year for unemployment due to COVID-19 affecting a lot of families Khan says this makes it more demanding and rewarding that people are well trained to be able to be flexible in terms of their ability to live a life.

One of the graduates, Asenaca Kalo who hails from Nawaikama, Gau says she was personally struggling and was facing financial issues.

Kalo says in reality, she was personally suffocating but somehow she was rescued by the Makoi Vocational Centre through the course.
