Four police officers have been sent home after alleged involvement in drugs and people need to trust the system.
Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu highlighted this when fijivillage News raised that people don’t have trust in the Force.
Tudravu says these officers have to go through the process and stressed that he will not be lenient to police officers who are involved in drugs.
Tudravu has also ruled out the existence of a large commercial-grade drug manufacturing laboratory in Fiji.
Tudravu says this is established after extensive intelligence gathering and information sharing with their local, regional and international partners.
He says there is currently no intelligence to show that there are commercial clandestine laboratories in Fiji to produce methamphetamine.
Tudravu says Fiji is only being used as a trans-shipment point for illicit drug trafficking.
The Commissioner says small-scale seizures of methamphetamine made throughout the five divisions are from low-level unprofessional cooking of experimental drugs on a very small scale.
Tudravu says the forensic lab is working to identify what chemicals are being used.
He says people don't understand what poisonous chemicals they are taking as it's extremely harmful to one's health.
He further says drugs can be brought to Fiji in many ways including vessels, cargo or carried by a person.
The Commissioner says he will reaching out to the community leaders, faith-based organizations, NGO’s and stakeholders to find real time solutions.
When asked about the numbers to call for complaints, the Commissioner says they can call the Command Centre and 917.
He says these are some of the areas that they need to reinforce and strengthen, especially when people are calling and the phone is diverted or not being answered.
Tudravu says these are the small things that need to be firmed up and through this they can gain the trust of the community.
