Four people have been arrested in the past few days in separate incidences for allegedly possessing substances believed to be cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana as police beefs up their drug operations as we approach the festive season.

A man from Tamavua is in custody following the seizure of white substances believed to be cocaine at his home.

Police have also seized more than $1,700 believed to be proceeds of crime.

Assistant Commissioner of Police for Operations Livai Driu says yesterday, a joint operations team consisting of officers from the Fiji Detector Dog Unit and Narcotics Bureau raided the home in Tamavua, where they found a ziplock bag containing white substances believed to be cocaine.

ACP Driu says in another raid conducted by the Dog Unit and Southern Division Task Force two men were taken into custody where dried leaves believed to be marijuana were seized, weighing scales, smoking apparatuses, several apparatuses containing white substances believed to be methamphetamine, several mobile phones and electronic gadgets believed to be stolen property. following

He says the information received from a member of the public was that there were two vehicles parked along a road in Caubati, and the occupants were seen acting in a suspicious manner.

He adds the joint operations team were deployed where a search was conducted.

The two suspects were taken to the Valelevu Police Station, where they remain in custody.

ACP Driu says arrests were also being recorded in the Northern and Western Divisions.

In the North, a team consisting of officers from the Crime Intel Unit, Narcotics Bureau and Labasa Task Force worked on information received when they searched a boat along the Labasa River and a man was taken into custody after he was allegedly found with white substances believed to be methamphetamine and dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

In Lautoka, a joint raid by the Dog Unit, Narcotics and Western Division Taskforce led to the discovery of dried leaves believed to be marijuana and cash believed to have been eared as proceeds of crime.

ACP Driu says farms are also being raided as operations target cultivators, manufacturers, distributors and those found in possession.

ACP Driu says four people are in police custody for drug-related offences and possession of suspected stolen goods that were made over the past few days while the Police will be heightening their drug operations as we near the festive season based on past trends.

He says the increased tempo will mean the deployment of officers from the Dog Unit working together with Fiji Revenue and Customs Service to beef up operations.

The head of the Fiji Police Operations has commended the show of support in the war against drugs with the sharing of information.
