Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya

I believe government has failed our children.

This was stated by the Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya at the “Violence Against Children In Fiji” Report launch.

She says the numbers are the same for years now.

Tabuya says 4 out of 5 children are facing some sort of abuse.

She says it is upon us, as our responsibility is to come together as a community to tackle this scourge.

The Minister says consultations are underway for the Child Justice Bill and the Child Protection Bill, and she has also sought for the Bills to be reviewed especially with UNICEF who have expertise in legislation.

She says the Ministry has established a Department for Children and they need to fill the role of Director for Children.

Tabuya adds it is with a heavy heart that they see these statistics, but it is a challenge for us to all come together and to make Fiji a safer place for our children.
