385 people to benefit from the 30KW Yasawa High School Solar Hybrid Project

The completion of the 30KW Yasawa High School Solar Hybrid Project is expected to benefit 385 people.

While commissioning the project, Minister for Infrastructure, Jone Usamate says this project will enable the school to experience sustainable electricity supply 24/7.

He says it will also enable students to equip themselves with technology and learning tools such as computers, television, tablets for their educational needs.

Usamate says for the past 11 years, the government has invested about $291.5 million on rural electrification projects such as EFL Grid Extension, Solar Homes System, Micro-hydro and Energy Hybrid Systems.

He adds this shows the governments commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind in terms of development.

The Minister has encouraged the students and teachers to take ownership and maximise the benefits provided from this solar project.

The project is funded by the Fijian Government and the European Union through the German International Corporation with a total cost of $539,863.92.
