The Viria Water Project which was supposed to open in July last year, is expected to take a bit longer to complete as the Water Authority of Fiji completed their testing phase last week and will await the outcome of discussions between the Minister for Works and the Vanua of Viria.

WAF says during this testing phase and commissioning, they are producing and introducing 30 million litres of treated water per day into the existing water supply system.

They say this phase also tests the capacity of their supply network and reservoirs, allowing the operations team to fine-tune the operating procedures required.

WAF says during this phase, they anticipate and have already observed improved water system pressure and water supply to the Baulevu, Verata-Wailevu, Nausori, and Rewa Delta areas.

They say that works are ongoing with the existing water supply scheme, such as leak detection, rectification works, and installation of pressure sensors and air valves along the pipeline to enhance monitoring and reduce burst main occurrences.

WAF says regarding the commissioning of the Viria Water Treatment Plant, the matter is personally led by the Minister for Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau.

They say Ro Filipe is in an ongoing discussion with the Vanua of Viria, and any formal opening of the project will be subject to these discussions.
