Three people have been arrested for an alleged case of unlawful possession of methamphetamine in Saweni, Lautoka this morning.

Police say officers from the Fiji Detector Dog Unit and the Western Division Dog Unit arrested them while attending to a report of causing trouble.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu says K9 capabilities are being deployed not only for their specialised field of work, but to also assist with routine operations, attending to reports received at the Station level.

ACP Driu says upon arriving at the scene, the officers noticed the occupants acting in a suspicious manner whereby back up from the Fiji Detector Dog Unit (FDDU) was requested.

He says a search conducted on the premises resulted in the seizure of clear plastics containing white substances believed to be methamphetamine.

ACP Driu says the alleged owner of the house fled the scene and the search continues for his whereabouts.

Meanwhile in Labasa, officers on beat patrol yesterday noticed a bag left unattended at the Labasa Market, and upon searching the bag found several plastics containing green leaves believed to be marijuana.

ACP Driu adds it is all hands on deck as officers from various units are deployed to beef operations on the frontline, maintaining the tempo of operations focused on curbing minor and major crimes.
