SODELPA Leader Viliame Gavoka

SODELPA Leader Viliame Gavoka says overall, 2021 is very gloomy, with lives shattered and recovery will be a long process for the many that are hurting, but, when he reads the stories of those that survived unbelievable tragedies, a common thread is their attitude of gratitude at the worst moments of their lives.

In his New Year’s message, Gavoka says his theme, as we put 2021 behind us and look to 2022, is national well-being and national healing.

He says 2021 has been incredibly difficult for Fiji and much of the world has never experienced anything like it.

Gavoka says when he looks back at the events of the past 12 months, including his difficult journey as a political leader, he is thankful for so many things great and small.

He adds 2022 will bring us the general elections, for us to decide how we wish to be governed for the next 4 years.

Gavoka says studies have shown that a grateful spirit improves the health of our body and grateful people have been found to be more likely to take good care of their health.

He says gratitude also improves our psychological health where a grateful heart increases our happiness and makes us better able to rejoice at the good fortune and success of others.

Gavoka says grateful people are more likely to behave in a pro-social manner even when others are cruel and unkind to them.
