Concerns regarding safe and clean drinking water will be a thing of the past for Vunisavisavi Village in Cakaudrove following the commissioning the $200,000 Groundwater Project.

The water project will benefit 10 households, consisting of 32 people living in the village.

While speaking at the commissioning, Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Filimoni Vosarogo says this was in line with one of the Government’s fundamental principles on water and sanitation which is access to an efficient, cost-effective water supply that is equitable.

He says water, as we all know, is very important for preserving our health and maintaining good hygiene.

Vosarogo says without a safe and consistent water source, the health of community members are affected, which directly impacts their ability to contribute to socio-economic development, and also affects, the academic performances of the children.

He has also reminded the community members that maintaining the system required consistent attention, periodic maintenance, and was fully dependent on electricity as a source of power for the pump.

The Minister adds a very active water committee that is supported by the community is critical to the sustainability of this scheme.

He says the villagers will now be able to enjoy a better quality of life as water plays a critical role in our daily lives - from drinking, bathing, washing, cleaning and proper hygiene and sanitation.
