Save the Children Fiji’s Chief Executive Officer, Shairana Ali.

2,000 individuals with special needs are being assisted by Save the Children Fiji with a one-off payment of $400 cash.

This has been confirmed by Save the Children Fiji’s Chief Executive Officer, Shairana Ali.

She says about 14,000 families who were affected by the impacts of COVID-19 have received cash assistance of $100 per month for 4 months from last December to April this year.

Ali says apart from getting calls from containment zones, they are also receiving calls outside the areas from people who were working in the containment zones but are unable to access their work places.

She says they will be able to provide food packs as well if they have enough funding and resources.

Ali says they are prioritizing the needs of children to assist with essentials like milk, nappies, soap, and other hygiene related needs.

The main challenge they are facing is funding to carry out work and also the restrictions on the ground that has impacted the ability to reach the most vulnerable.

They have launched an appeal on their Facebook page and website for people who are willing to donate.

All the money raised will go towards helping families to meet their basic needs.
