200 students will be housed in the two new dormitories that will be built at Queen Victoria School that is expected to be completed in May 2021.

While speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, Minister for Education Rosy Akbar says the new state of the art construction is a testament of the government’s commitment towards the education of students.

She says the government has invested close to $8.3 million dollars to strengthen school buildings at QVS after Tropical Cyclone Winston and in some cases build entirely new buildings.

Akbar urged the students to make the most of these benefits, as these were not available during her time.

She says students role as the future of the nation in driving national growth has become weightier.

Akbar adds that nation-building is the collective effort of each one and their partnership will lead to many more successes tomorrow.

The Minister says we have come a long way in these 50 years and we intend to do so in the many years to come.

Akbar also distributed the specially packaged Fiji-50 50c coins to the students of QVS and RKS.

Concrete Solutions (Fiji) Limited has been engaged through a Government Tender process and will see to the completion of this project which will house 100 beds each, and has a projected amount of approximately 4 million dollars.
