Two of the 4 suspended police officers charged for allegedly throwing a man off a bridge in Naqia, Wainibuka in Tailevu failed to appear in the Suva High Court yesterday.

It is alleged that Inoke Lagicere was assaulted and thrown off a bridge by a group of police officers dressed in civilian clothing in April last year.

The court was told that Sevanaia Narogi and Inoke Nagata were not in Suva. Their lawyer Naomi Rakaci of Ravono and Raikaci Law told High Court Judge Justice Riyaz Hamza that they have not been able to get in contact with Narogi as he lives in Navosa.

She said that Narogi gave them a phone contact but their attempts to get through to him have been unsuccessful.

Raikaci told the court that the other accused Inoke Nagata was in Vanua Levu and could not travel due to the COVID-19 restrictions for maritime travel.

The other two accused Kameli Tukana and Mafoa Korosaya appeared in court.

Korosaya is represented by Tirath Sharma Lawyers while Tukana is represented by Law Solutions.

Justice Hamza stressed in court that police officers can't go missing and have to come to court.

He added that it would be very unfortunate if he issued a warrant.

Bail has been extended for the four.

The case has been adjourned to 8th November for mention.
