A two weeks trial period that will allow for the regular monitoring of emission levels has started for two Lami based cement manufacturing companies that were issued Prohibition Notices by the Ministry of Environment.

The Ministry had issued the notices as they had suspected that the dust emitted from the operations may not be of the national air quality standard.

Permanent Secretary, Joshua Wycliffe says they met with the companies to ensure all the gaps and breaches are filled however, they are not immediately lifting their conditions.

He says the companies will have a two weeks trial period where the Ministry’s officers will be reviewing the companies regularly and if there are any issues, they will stop the work immediately.

Wycliffe says they will be meeting the companies after one week of the trial period to review the emission levels.

He adds the Prohibition Notices will only be lifted once the Ministry is satisfied that the companies have met all their conditions.
