Eleven more Fiji National University private students have been assisted with their tuition fees through the University’s Student Bursary Scheme.

The 11 students will receive $1,000 tuition assistance each.

All the recipients are full-time first-year local students enrolled in undergraduate Bachelor’s programmes at FNU and are not on any form of scholarship or sponsorship.

The University had assisted 19 private students under the scheme during Semester 1 this year.

Shazna Begum, a recipient of the scheme, expressed her gratitude towards the University for the financial assistance during these unprecedented times.

The Bachelor of Education student says the assistance has lightened the burden of paying her fees and has allowed her to focus more on her studies.

Begum says COVID-19 has brought about many challenges, especially impacting employment and earning capacity.

She says the assistance means a lot to her as it not only eased her financial burden but also motivates her to work diligently towards achieving her dreams.

FNU Vice-Chancellor Professor Toby Wilkinson says they understand the students will use this opportunity well and it will assist them to continue to work hard and dedicate themselves to their programmes.

Professor Wilkinson says the University has implemented various initiatives over the months to ensure that students can continue with their studies with minimal disruption.

He adds for students facing financial difficulties or those who has concerns regarding fee payment, FNU is continuing to offer a Flexible Fee Payment option.
