Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has highlighted that crisis such as wars, plagues and famines are not so similar to the enduring long-term effects that climate change presents.

Speaking at the GIZ/SPC opening of wrap up events - Coping with Climate Change in the Pacific Island Region at the Grand Pacific Hotel, Bainimarama says those wars, plagues and famines we can see and even the COVID-19 crisis dominates our attention and has an end but we can expect the enduring effect of climate change to be part of us for a long time.

He says to tackle this issue of climate change and reach the goal of a net zero emission, we will need the cooperation of partner countries such as the European Union, GIZ, UN, Switzerland and others.

He adds Fiji's commitment to climate adaptation now sits at the heart of the country's national planning through our climate change division in the Ministry of Economy.

The Prime Minister says this division will serve as a focal point for our work with development partners in the climate arena.
